Something has clicked in here that I call “reversal”. I think it is connected with the reversal of good-and-bad values Nietzsche connected with ressentiment. This was the attitude the bourgeoisie copped toward the advanced German intelligentia, and the politics of hate was the way Nazi propaganda neutralized rationality, Jews the target. Also, and if so, with Carl Jung’s diagnosis of the enantiodromia psychic condition in which extremes revert to their opposites.

Posted Jun 05, 2006 In Godless: The Church of Liberalism (Crown Forum, 2006), HUMAN EVENTS legal affairs correspondent Ann Coulter lays out one of the most original and perceptive philosophies on the cult of liberalism.
This shoe, however, belongs precisely on the other foot. The Bush base she is writing for is become a Church, with John Roberts as Supreme priest. As for the neocons being a cult, an entire thread was devoted to this in 2003 on The Original Neocon Watch (Original Dissent Forum, on-line).

This “shoe is on the other foot” situation – her accusing liberals of being what neo conservatives are -- is the enantiodromia trademark. As a particular psychic phenomenon, this situation can also be analyzed as “dumping”: neocon shit is dumped into the liberals toilet bowl. Then, “look what a turn I’ve found!” comes next.
2. As a psychic field organized against her, the liberal “cult” represents a “mental disorder”. This is a double-dump special, putting her wiseacring on the plane of “normal”, doing guard duty over liberals, the inmates.
But, in fact, hers represents a hopelessly hate-twisted, demented world-view, as this double-dumping shows she is aware of coming back, if not defended against. And what better defense than pre-emptive accusation? It’s all verbal game-playing anyway.

Apropos of the mental disorder theme, the cable news nets, Drudge, were featuring: “16,000,000 Americans suffering from Rage Disorder” stories yesterday by coincidence, one supposes. “IED”, the condition is listed as in the DM-IV, “Intermittent Explosive Disorder” (symptoms:, inappropriate anger, threats, property damage). To normal people, this might well be considered a natural, i.e., instinctive, reaction by a sizeable chunk of Americans to the carnage being inflicted in their name, by those like Coulter who have hijacked it. That was my thought, anyway.
And IED also stands for “Improvised Explosive Device”. Or roadside bomb, for to whoever links it to what set off GI rage in Haditha. If you outraged at what the “Reaganesque” neoconservatives have done, to the point of frothing fury, you are set to go off against the troops.
And, for the sign-use addicted, there is always the IUD. Goes in there somewhere.
