Depends on what you mean by "real" and "thing".

The fact is, when John McCain got God or somebody's message to parachute into Washington and Save The Baby (Saving The Unborn R US!they shout -- Jews in abortionist gas chambers!), his intervention interrupted the efforts by Democrats in good faith to work out a deal, having had a gun put to their head by this psychotic president, who then retired quickly to the WC.
The Repubes, who are congenitally incapable of going along with anything they can't control by a combination of lies, threats and force -- that is, any genuinely bipartisan process -- always toeing the Party line, voting en bloc for whatever they are told to go along with, since none of them think for themselves -- were losing control of the BIG TAX SPENDERS spewtum they rely on for rhetoric. The initiative came from Bush; the reptiles needed CYA pronto. Johnny one-note losing the kazoo.
The obstructionist role played by McInsane, as the guilty leeches tried to suck blood out of his turnip Wednesday, was then Rove Role-Reversed: HE WAS THE BIPARTISAN HERO who brought 'em together FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY. - liberal abortionist baby Jew killers, Islamic fanatic Muslim softies, nanny state (Nancy Grace) killer mommy BIG TAX AND SPEND DEMOCRATS ... and the god fearing, honest "THE SURGE WORKED FOR ME!" Petraeus folks dedicated to Saving The Unborn, Little Israel, ant Trig, but we don't mention him much. Just lick his hair back. ("Bipartisan" is Cheney-WHIG repube code for political date rape. Anyone who goes along deserves any suffering they get.)
I urge every Iraq war veteran to join those who turn against these un-American, un-Christian,
dehumanized reptiles who have exploited them. Even as McCain should have turned against the Vietnam war mongers, including LBJ, after being mercifully spared death by North Vietnam (to whom he will always owe a debt for that, however much he says he hates them all now, and he does say that -- as if anything he, or any of them, say means anything whatsoever except to their pocketbooks).
Then God spoke to them from the Gulf of Mexico, if you believe He has anythig to do with the weather. And along came Palin, to save what should have been aborted at conception -- Rick Davis.
