Of all the 'liberation movements' stemming from the '60's, this was among the most passive-to-not-there, when it came to protesting the Vietnam war. You just didn't hear that much about it, and it wouldn't have been an issue. Others* stood between them and the military/authoritarian institutional regime which is its psychodynamic opposite.
Now, the adjustments in grammar required to accomodate reversal of
negative religious and instinctive attitudes, reflected already in use of "Gay" as an emotive designator, have led to "Gay-ness", the passive opposite of harsh, militaristic aggressiveness, as the 'distilled essence', as it were, of the protestors legacy. I have heard support of "gay" causes put in exactly these terms. "It is today's idealism of yesterday's student- led 60's war-protest movement." Except with a certain glitch: it is the extreme of Archetypal Father rejection. The anti-war protest was not. Therefore, for homosexual causes, represented by claims to "equal rights" to "marry", and serve openly in the military, to be regarded as the same spiritual and moral impulse as 'rebellious 60's youth' is scurrilous and twisted. It is here that a snake-brain template loops in. The goodness in Eve's soul gets wrapped around impulses toward homosexual intercourse through empathy: "We women know what it it is like to be treated as inferior, 'the weaker sex', condemned for following forbidden impulses."
