The sweep of the new exhibition at the New York Public Library — “Three Faiths: Judaism, Christianity, Islam” — is stunning. It stretches from a Bible found in a monastery in coastal Brittany that was sacked by the Vikings in the year 917, to a 1904 lithograph showing the original Temple Emanu-El on Fifth Avenue. It encompasses both an elaborately decorated book of 20th-century Coptic Christian readings and a modest 19th-century printing of the Gospels in the African language Grebo. There are Korans, with pages that shimmer with gold leaf and elegant calligraphy, and a 13th-century Pentateuch from Jerusalem, written in script used by Samaritans who traced their origins to the ancient Northern Kingdom of Israel.

The library’s Gutenberg Bible is here, as well as its 1611 King James translation. The first Koran published in English is shown, from 1649, along with fantastical images from 16th-century Turkish and Persian manuscripts in which Muhammad is pictured with other prophets, his face a blank white space in obeisance to the prohibition against his portrait.

Out of many, one. That could well be the motto of this ambitious exhibition. It focuses on “the three Abrahamic religions” — Judaism, Christianity and Islam — each of which takes as a forebear an “itinerant herdsman” of the Middle East, Abraham, who affirmed

JERUSALEM — The more stridently Israel insists on Palestinian recognition of it as the nation-state of the Jewish people, the more adamantly the Palestinian leadership seems to refuse.
As a result, some senior Israeli officials are beginning to question the wisdom of the policy of their prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who has made recognition of the legitimacy of the Jewish nation-state a prerequisite for any final agreement with the Palestinians.

When Rupert Murdoch, the chief executive of the News Corporation, donated $1 million to the Republican Governors Association this summer, he may have given an even bigger gift to its opponents.
The influence of cable will almost certainly extend into the next presidential election, since a number of potential candidates for the Republican nomination are on the payroll of Fox News, including Mike Huckabee, who has a show on the weekends, and Sarah Palin.

The politicization of cable news has been a long time coming. Still, it was striking to see Glenn Beck of Fox News hold a religious-themed rally in Washington in August, and to see Ed Schultz, who is the host of programs on MSNBC and on radio, kick off a progressive rally there this month.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central are staging a rally in Washington next Saturday, but Mr. Stewart says it will not be political.
The evolution of cable hosts from observers to outright opponents has sometimes been a source of frustration. Ms. Maddow said on her show this month, “For those of us who work here at MSNBC, one of the most surreal things about this particular election year, has been conservative politicians’ efforts to make us part of the elections.”

These are the links through fantasy and fact between Re-BIRTH today, felt in the gut as somaticized response to Chile miners rescue -- same fantasy as 'release from underground entrapment' (mother's womb) ... and CONDITIONS OF HIGHLY AROUSED TERROR OF BLOOD POISONING.

Of all the 'liberation movements' stemming from the '60's, this was among the most passive-to-not-there, when it came to protesting the Vietnam war. You just didn't hear that much about it, and it wouldn't have been an issue. Others* stood between them and the military/authoritarian institutional regime which is its psychodynamic opposite.

Now, the adjustments in grammar required to accomodate reversal of
negative religious and instinctive attitudes, reflected already in use of "Gay" as an emotive designator, have led to "Gay-ness", the passive opposite of harsh, militaristic aggressiveness, as the 'distilled essence', as it were, of the protestors legacy. I have heard support of "gay" causes put in exactly these terms. "It is today's idealism of yesterday's student- led 60's war-protest movement." Except with a certain glitch: it is the extreme of Archetypal Father rejection. The anti-war protest was not. Therefore, for homosexual causes, represented by claims to "equal rights" to "marry", and serve openly in the military, to be regarded as the same spiritual and moral impulse as 'rebellious 60's youth' is scurrilous and twisted. It is here that a snake-brain template loops in. The goodness in Eve's soul gets wrapped around impulses toward homosexual intercourse through empathy: "We women know what it it is like to be treated as inferior, 'the weaker sex', condemned for following forbidden impulses."

Comment: calls for the homosexual ban, while draconian, still makes political sense as an extreme line-in-the-sand position. After all, homosexual advocates have pushed their kind of childless copulation incessantly and relentlessly now for years. (DADT, same-sex marriage. poisoning the concept of "rights'). This has driven defenders of Bible morality and sexual common sense over the wall. Washington D.C. is reportedly a very gay-feeling town. deMint would have to stand up for the manhood style he grew up with, and that's what he was campaigning on in Spartansburg.

But barring single women from teaching public schools for having a live-in boy friend? Really (as they used to say). That's absurd. Even the Puritans couldn't have gone that far. And he has to know it.
So absurd is it it defeats any complaint about homosexual teachers as anti-erotic authoritarianism per se. Which it's not. That's one of the tricks of sign-use used in the "Elicit-Split" mechanism (completed by => "Dump-Kill" : "Elicit! Split! Dump! Kill the poisoned"). deMint defeats himself by over-kill. Or, his lines were scripted with that intent and he merely recited them, like Rick Sanchez.

As the Palestinians consider withdrawing from peace talks with Israel unless a freeze on Jewish settlement building in the West Bank is extended, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel is engaged in his own calculations about whether accepting an American offer aimed at prolonging the freeze would destroy his political coalition.
Mr. Netanyahu is examining an American offer of a 60-day freeze extension in exchange for security and political guarantees. A deadline looms this weekend, since the Arab League is gathering in Libya on Friday

Netanyahu's coalition is called "The "forum of 7", in which he belongs to the 'left leaning" side.

Comment: A. The U.S. is put in the position of trying to cajole "the Israelis" (<=evoke delegate Group-process to link "the forum of 7") to do what it has long been stated that they must -- from every source: stand up to the IDF's Avigdor Lieberman, Eli Yishai of the Shah party, Moshe Yaalon, Benny Begin. Opposed "on the left" by Barak, Merridor and Netanyahu himself. This is the "vibrant Western style democracy" of "our chief ally in the Middle East". Netanyahu is positioned to "bravely stand up to his more extremist" political foes, do the right thing, and extend the freeze another 60 days (until after the elections). The arrogance of this beggars all comparison. Who wants to bet the 'political guarantees' include cooperation of members of the oppressed minority, yeah, "like Jon Stewart", who run CNN. To shape domestic propaganda so that any serious questioning of the assumptions and direction of these policies is laughed out of court or otherwise silenced.
